STORIES OF A WORLD IN WHICH MANY WORLDS CAN FIT

ABOUT US

In Muzungu we travel the planet aimlessly to listen, feel, understand and tell. We are a collective that has different views but a common commitment. We organize ourselves in a cooperative because we prefer to join forces than to work on their own; we choose to cooperate rather than compete. We are filmmakers, journalists, photographers, producers. We have been doing projects for television, cinema, written press and the digital world for a decade. We like a journalism in which the protagonists are not journalists; personal stories that do not miss structural analysis. When we have to show hard realities we avoid basking in the pain of others. We direct our attention and our lenses towards inequality and injustice but also towards the people who organize themselves to fight them. We are not here to “give voice” but to listen to those voices that others do not hear.

Stories of a world in which many worlds fit.

Disparos

Jair Cabrera was born in Iztapalapa, east of Mexico City. High rates of crime, lack of employment and deficiencies in education are some of the problems faced by its inhabitants. Many young people drop out of school and in the face of difficulty finding work, they are directed to an easier but much more dangerous option: small criminal gangs.

THERE IS NO WATER FOR THE HIMBA

In the Herero language, Opuwo means “the end”, a fairly accurate name for one of the most remote and wild populations of Namibia. Located in the northwest of the country, it is the capital of the Kaokoveld region, a place of arid, isolated, dusty hills. Only one road reaches there, a rattling track like almost all of the region.

ATHENS CAPITAL OF RIOTS

Alexis Grigorópulos, 15, was murdered on December 6, 2008 by a policeman in the neighborhood of leftist and anarchist tradition of Exarjia.
This crime unleashed a revolt of thousands of young people who staged several days of heavy riots throughout the country, which put the then government of conservative Kostas Karamanlís on the verge of proclaiming a state of emergency.
The policeman who killed him was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance and his trial on appeal is still ongoing. Since then, each anniversary of his death leads to clashes between groups of protesters and the police.
